Sorry no pictures( ok, just one picture of my Mom) and not much fun stuff. So, if you do not want to read this blog, wait for the next one, i hope to get some unique pictures.
My Mom
After the usual Piplia Pala walk ( now the guards know us " Auntijis) it was a very pleasant walk , we came home for the nice home made breakfast and just talked. If I have to describe more the sounds of India I will say a constant background of devotional sounds mixed with Bollywood and BIRDS. Yes, there are still lots of birds. I guess they are the amazing evolved life who adopt to anything. Pollution ..no problem, Concrete , and wires...not an issue , all they need is the right climate ( we may change that too soon). There are parrots, Myena Birds, Wood Peckers ( pecking on telephone poles) , crows ( eating off the garbage) and assortment of small birds that I do not know the names of.
My brother picked me up in the afternoon and I plan to stay here till be so on to the adventure north east. We will leave on 8th ,but that is for later. JAgdish's sister came by with her pretty daughter. His family has quite a few young girls ( nieces agess: 20 to 35) .all very pretty and doing well. More visitors and then Jagdish came by with his four friends in the tow. We were planning to go out for the meal of chicken ( never thought i will crave meat....i guess lack of protein ...not consuming dairy products ) but all the eating raw food and so on has caught up with jagdish and he has stomach issues. I gave him Imodium ( which my Doctor brother says puts a plug on....) and my sister in law made him Khichri ( mixture of rice and lentils supposed to be good for stomach) . He and his friends talked and talked and then left around 9 pm.
I was going to start the blog but my brother, sister in law sat around and talked till almost 2am. All those childhood memories and shared experiences. It is interesting , two people go through life at the same time but remember different things. I guess our brain decides on what to remember depending on our preconditioning from early early childhood. Fortunately for us, there are many fun memories and we reminded each other of various things . My favorites : How we used to tie ropes across the rooms and attempt to train various, birds and parrots to walk on and do the tricks. Also same thing for the pet mice our Dad brought from the medical college and how for some unknown reason the beautiful dogs will follow us and never leave our house. We all looked forward to walking to school, it was always an adventure going through "short cuts" picking flowers and mangoes, dates etc and looking out for "ghosts and Wirches" in the banyan trees...of course nothing like that exists any more, just dust, multi ( name for multi story building) , shopping malls and motor cycles.
We also talked about Indian culture, men and other things. We did not agree on many things but one thing we all agree on is what makes a man ( or for that matter any human being) what he or she is , is what was the home environment when he/she was little ( may be upto 6 to 8 years) . IN our case , it was our mother. She married when she was in eigth grade and 15 years of age. She had 6 kids one after another and was the wife of struggling college professor ( medical college). We reminded ourselves about the nuggets she shared with us over the years and we all remembered different things but with a common theme:
1) As long as you study ( girl or boy did not matter at all ) you did not have to do anything not even get a glass of water for yourself. ( she did not know that we hid novels inside the physics books pretending to study...she never found out until much later.)
2) No matter what you do and who you are, make sure you choose a profession where you can take care of yourself and your children .
3) Never depend on anyone for money, always give more than you get. The her last piece of advise for me was
4) Make sure your girls are self sufficient even if you live in America and after I am gone, make sure you stay connected to your siblings and always help them as much as you can.
